Q1. Am I eligible to apply as an Overseas Compatriot Student or a Hong Kong/Macao Student?

Eligibility for Overseas Compatriot Students is determined by the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC), while eligibility for Hong Kong and Macao Students is determined by the Ministry of Education (MOE). If you are unsure about your eligibility, we recommend contacting the Division of International Talent Cultivation via email or consulting the OCAC or the relevant competent authority before submitting your application.

Q2. I hold both a foreign passport and the nationality of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Am I eligible to apply as an Overseas Compatriot Student?

Yes. Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements for Overseas Compatriot Students and satisfy the overseas residency requirements stipulated in the Regulations Regarding Study and Counseling Assistance for Overseas Compatriot Students in Taiwan may apply for admission as an Overseas Compatriot Student, even if they hold both a foreign passport and the nationality of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Q3. I previously had household registration in Taiwan. Am I still eligible to apply as an Overseas Compatriot Student?

Yes. Applicants who previously had or currently have household registration in Taiwan may apply for admission as an Overseas Compatriot Student, provided they meet the eligibility requirements for Overseas Compatriot Students and satisfy the overseas residency requirements stipulated in the Regulations Regarding Study and Counseling Assistance for Overseas Compatriot Students in Taiwan.

Q4. How is the required period of overseas residency calculated?

Using September 2027 admission as an example, the required six consecutive years of overseas residency is calculated by counting backward six years from the application deadline (October 15, 2026) for that admission cycle.

Applicants who will satisfy the required continuous overseas residency period by August 31, 2027, as stipulated in the admission guidelines, are also eligible to apply. However, they must submit a signed declaration (Affidavit). The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) or the Department of International and Cross-Strait Education, Ministry of Education (MOE) will verify the applicant's overseas or Hong Kong/Macao residency for the period between the application deadline and August 31, 2027. If the applicant is found not to have fulfilled the required period of continuous overseas residency, the admission offer will be revoked.

Q1: I am a student from Hong Kong and have obtained an Associate Degree. Am I eligible to apply for direct admission as an overseas Chinese Student at NTHU?

A1: Yes. Applicants from Hong Kong who hold an Associate Degree (or Higher Diploma) are eligible to apply through this admission channel. Upon enrollment, students may be granted advanced standing to enter the third year of undergraduate study, as per university regulations.

Q1. What application documents are required?

The required application documents include basic application information, proof of identity, academic credentials, and supporting documents for admission review. Depending on the applicant's status or individual circumstances, additional supporting documents may also be required. Q2. Do documents in Chinese or English need to be translated?

The University accepts application documents in Chinese or English. If any supporting documents are in another language, applicants must provide a Chinese or English translation. The translated copy must be certified with the official stamp of the applicant's school or an authorized translation agency.

Q3. What are the file format and size requirements for uploading documents?

Please upload each required document as a PDF file. Only one file may be uploaded for each document category. If a document consists of multiple files, please combine them into a single PDF before uploading. The maximum file size is 5 MB per file.

Q4. Does my recommendation letter have to be written by the principal?

No. The admission brochure for the NTHU Independent Admission for Overseas Compatriot Students does not require the recommender to be a specific person. Any teacher or school official who is familiar with the applicant's academic performance, personal character, or abilities may serve as a recommender, such as a homeroom teacher, subject teacher, guidance counselor, or school principal.

Q5. What should I include in my autobiography and study plan?

There is no required format for the autobiography or study plan for the NTHU Independent Admission for Overseas Compatriot Students. Applicants are encouraged to prepare these documents based on their personal experiences, academic background, motivation for applying, and future study or career plans.

Q6. Is there a minimum subject score requirement for admission?

No. The NTHU Independent Admission for Overseas Compatriot Students does not set minimum subject score requirements. Applicants who meet the eligibility and academic qualification requirements may apply, and all application materials will be reviewed comprehensively by the Admissions Committee.

Q7. What if I have not yet received my graduation diploma by the application deadline?

Current graduating students who have not yet received their graduation diploma by the application deadline may submit a certificate of enrollment issued by their school as proof of their current student status. Admitted applicants must submit their graduation diploma or other required academic credentials by the deadline specified by the University to complete the enrollment verification process.

Q8. How many program choices can I select?

Applicants may select up to 12 program choices and should rank them according to their interests and preferences. The review committee will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of all application materials submitted by each applicant. Applicants who meet the minimum admission standard will be considered for placement based on their evaluation results and the order of their program preferences. The final admission list will be approved by the Admissions Committee.

Q1. What should I do if my recommender does not receive the notification email?

Ask your recommender to check their Spam or Junk Mail folder first. If the email is still not received, please contact us for assistance.

Q2. What if my recommender does not understand Chinese? How can they complete the online recommendation form?

The online recommendation form is available in both Chinese and English. Recommenders may switch the interface language at any time and complete the recommendation in either Chinese or English.

Q3. How can I confirm that my application has been successfully submitted?

After you submit your application, the system will automatically send a "Successful Application Submission" notification to your registered email address. Receiving this email confirms that your application has been successfully submitted. If you do not receive the notification, please check your Spam/Junk Mail folder or log in to the online application system to verify your application status. Q1. Are there any undergraduate programs taught entirely in English?

Yes. The International Bachelor Degree Program of Tsing Hua College is taught in English and offers four major fields of study: Business Management, Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, and Education and Learning Sciences. Q2. I'm not sure what I want to study yet. What should I do?

If you have not yet decided on your field of study, you may consider applying to the Tsing Hua College Bachelor's Program. Students explore courses across different disciplines during their first year and are assigned to a department in their second year based on their interests, academic performance, and University regulations. This flexible pathway helps reduce the risk of choosing an unsuitable major. Students graduate within four years and receive a bachelor's degree from their assigned department. Q3. What opportunities are available for double majors, minors, credit programs, and interdisciplinary studies?

NTHU encourages interdisciplinary learning.
