Institute of Information Systems and Applications

The institute places a strong emphasis on the theory and technology of the information systems and the applications in all fields of information science. Recently, information system management will be also considered. The primary research subjects in the coming ten years are concentrated on exploring and developing four major application systems: electronic commerce, learning technology, digital library, and biomedical information. The master program is carried out in three groups. In Group A, research and teaching is focus on the inner working of new computer systems. Students from all fields are admitted to Group A. Group B is more inter-disciplinary and admits students with non-engineering background. In Group C, bioinformatics is for students who are interested in study biological information. The three groups complement one another and there is a lot of cooperation going on. Currently, ISA has eighteen professors, ten jointly with appointed with Computer Science Department, six jointly with Industrial Engineering, Technology Management, History, and General Education. Among our faculty members, four received the NSC Outstanding Research Award and one received Outstanding Teaching Award from Tsing Hua University.
